In April 2012, through Law 26.739, a new Central Bank charter came in force. One of the changes to the charter regulates the method by which banks calculate the reserves they are required to deposit in a Central Bank current account. When fully implemented the change could negatively affect consumer credit and interest rates, as it will require a greater share of funds to be tied up in Central Bank accounts than previously.
