The Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of Hispaniola, part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. Some of its major industries are, agriculture, cement, food processing, metal refining, mining, petroleum products, textiles, tobacco products and tourism.
It is estimated that GDP will grow by 5.2% in 2010, before continued policy tightening and a less supportive external environment will slow the rate to 4.2% in 2011. Growth will pick up thereafter, to average 4.8% in 2012-15.
The Dominican Republic has the second largest economy in the Caribbean and Central American region. It is an upper middle-income developing country primarily dependent on agriculture, trade, and services, especially tourism.
